The stories in Whiz Kids - a documentary about science fairs and the real kids winning them - are inspiring and should give anyone hope!
If we can figure out which character attributes are driving these young people, let's try to mentor and model those traits here!

The Action Teams
Last fall, under our new superintendent's leadership, we set out on a Strategic Plan - the first in more than a decade and a new page turned over for local education.
A "Core Team" worked intensively for three days together; they came up with six strategies for the the Durango 9-R Schools to pursue.
Here's "Strategy Five:"
It's up to us, working over an 11 week period as members of Action Teams to make it all real.
I'm impressed with the leadership and participation on my team. Everyone seems intent on making this a meaningful process with great results for our community and young people.
We'll see what we can do. It's an eleven week commitment, every Wednesday night.

"In partnership with our families and community, we will identify and assess the character attributes that help individuals compete and contribute in society; we will mentor and model those attributes throughout our educational system."
